This visa is for individuals who are not eligible for ETA or E-Visitor visas. It is intended for tourism, study (up to 3 months), business, and visiting
relatives and friends in Australia. This is the most common type of visitor visa.
Primary Requirements:
- Have a genuine intention to travel to and stay in Australia as a genuine visitor.
- Have enough funds to support yourself during your visit.
- Meet health and character requirements.
- Have private health insurance (or equivalent) and a ‘fitness to travel’ certificate from a doctor if you are over 70 years old.
- Allowed to apply from within Australia.
- Australian citizens and permanent residents can support friends or relatives applying for a visitor visa by sending a letter or statutory declaration to support the application.
Genuine Intention and Risk Factors: All visitors to Australia must prove to the Department of Home Affairs that they are genuine visitors who will not violate visa conditions, such as working or overstaying their visa.
To show a genuine intention to return home, you should provide evidence such as:
- Property ownership in your home country.
- A letter from your employer or evidence that you are on vacation from your job or business and are expected back at work after your stay in Australia.
- Evidence of business or substantial assets in your country of origin.
- Evidence that you are studying and must return by a specific date.
Visitors to Australia must also demonstrate that they have enough funds to support themselves during their stay without needing to work, even in
cases of illness or accidents. There is no specific dollar amount required to meet this criteria. This visa can be granted for up to 12 months.
