There is no fixed rule on how to verify work experience – recommendations vary depending on the specific specialty. It is important to note that work experience does not always begin immediately after starting a job. For instance, IT specialists accumulate experience in the first 2 years after completing their diploma, even if they are officially employed. Only experience in the specified profession is considered for points in the point test.
Approximate scale for evaluating work experience in the specialty:
- 3 years of experience within the last 5 years grant 5 points;
- 5 years of experience within the last 8 years grant 10 points;
- 8 years of experience within the last 10 years grant 15 points
If this work experience was acquired in Australian companies within the country, then the points increase as follows:
- 5 points for one year of work in Australia;
- 8 points for three years of work;
- 10 points for five years of work;
- 20 points for eight years of work.
ENGLISH AND/OR SPOUSE QUALIFICATIONS
- Depending on your marital status and your spouse’s level of English knowledge, you may be eligible for additional points. You do not necessarily
- have to be married to your spouse, de facto relationships are also accepted by the Department.
- If you are immigrating alone – 10 points
- If you have a spouse who knows English at a minimum level equivalent to IELTS 6 – 5 points
- If you have a spouse who knows English at a minimum level equivalent to IELTS 6 + obtained a qualification assessment – 10 points
- If you have a spouse who does not know English at the required level – 0 points
