Skilled Independent visa (subclass 189):
This category is intended for skilled workers who are not being sponsored by an employer or family member, or nominated by a state/territory
government or region. This visa grants independent permanent residency. You are required to meet the fundamental criteria for immigration to Australia and achieve a minimum score of 65 points in the points test. Your occupation must be listed in Australia’s relevant Skilled Occupation Lists (STSOL-MLTSSL).
General requirements for applicants include:
- Possessing a profession that is listed on the Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL)
- Receiving a positive assessment of the profession in the relevant specialty from the aforementioned list
- Being between the ages of 18 and 44
- Demonstrating a proficient level of English language skills
- Scoring at least 65 points on the points test
- Submitting an Expression of Interest (EOI) and obtaining an invitation to apply for a visa
- Meeting the health and character requirements.
Visa subclass 189 allows you to live and work in Australia permanently;
study at Australian educational institutions;
receive government-subsidized medical assistance through the Medicare and Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS) programs;
receive social benefits (waiting periods may apply);
apply for Australian citizenship in the established manner; sponsor individuals wishing to apply for an Australian immigration visa.
Skilled Nominated Visa (Subclass 190):
The 190 visa is points-based and allows skilled workers who are nominated by an Australian state or territory government to live and work in
Australia as permanent residents. This is a permanent sponsored visa.
To be eligible, you must meet the basic requirements for immigration to Australia and score at least 65 points on the points test. Additionally,
your occupation must be listed in the appropriate Combined Skilled Occupations List (STSOL-MLTSSL).
In order to be eligible for the visa, you must:
- Have a relevant occupation listed on the 190 occupation list (STSOL)
- Have a suitable skills assessment for the occupation from the above list
- Be aged between 18 and 44 years old
- Have Competent English
- Meet the points test pass mark of 65 points
- Receive a nomination invitation from one of the Australian states
- Lodge an Expression of Interest (EOI) and be invited to apply
- Meet health and character requirements.
Subclass visa 190 allows you to live and work in Australia permanently; reside in the nominating state for a minimum of 2 years to study at
Australian educational institutions; access state-subsidised medical assistance through Medicare and the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS);
receive social benefits (with possible waiting periods); apply for Australian citizenship following the established procedure; and sponsor
individuals seeking an Australian immigration visa.
Skilled Regional (Provisional) Visa (Subclass 491):
The 491 visa is point based and allows skilled workers who are nominated by a regional Australian state or territory government, or by a family
member who resides in regional Australia.
This is a 5-year provisional visa which can lead to permanent residency under the 191 visa if conditions are met.
To be eligible, you must meet the basic requirements for immigration to Australia and score at least 65 points on the points test.
Your occupation must also be on the appropriate Combined Skilled Occupations List (STSOL-MLTSSL).
To be eligible, you must meet the following criteria:
- Have a relevant occupation on the 190 occupation list (STSOL)
- Have a suitable skills assessment for the occupation from the list
- Be aged between 18 and 44
- Have Competent English
- Meet the points test pass mark of 65 points
- Receive a nomination invitation from one of the Australian regional areas
- Regional areas are defined as any area excluding Sydney, Melbourne, and Brisbane
- Lodge an Expression of Interest (EOI) and be invited to apply
- Meet health and character requirements.
The Sub-class visa 491 allows you to live and work in Australia permanently. You must live and work in the nominating regional area for at least 3 years before you can apply for the permanent 191 visa (you will need to earn a minimum of AU$53,900 per year to qualify). This visa also allows you to receive state-subsidized medical assistance through Medicare insurance and the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS). You can apply for the permanent 191 visa following the established procedure.
Skilled Regional (Permanent) Visa (Subclass 191);
The Subclass 191 visa is a permanent visa granted to eligible applicants who have resided and worked in a designated regional area in Australia
on a previous eligible visa (Subclass 491 or Subclass 494). Regional designated areas are defined as any area except for Sydney, Melbourne, and Brisbane. This visa will not be effective until 16 November 2022. To fulfill the requirements of the permanent visa (starting from November 2022), applicants must:

- be a holder of provisional visa 491 or visa 494 for 3 years prior to application
- have met the minimum taxable income requirement (AU$53900) for 3 years
- both primary and secondary applicants have complied with the conditions of the eligible visa you hold or have held
- no minimum age requirement is set

The Global Talent (Permanent) Visa (Subclass 858): is a program designed to attract highly skilled professionals in certain target sectors to
Australia. To be eligible, you must have an internationally recognized record of exceptional and outstanding achievement.
This visa has two pathways:
1. The Global Talent Independent Program – This program requires skills in priority sectors such as Resources, Agri-food and AgTech, Energy,
Health Industries, Defence, Advanced Manufacturing and Space, Circular Economy, Digi Tech, Infrastructure and Tourism, Financial Services
and FinTech, and Education.
2. The Distinguished Talent pathway – This pathway is for applicants with talent in other sectors. To apply for this visa, you must be nominated by an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident, an eligible New Zealand citizen, or an Australian organization with a national reputation in your area of talent. Eligibility for the Global Talent Visa Subclass 858 requires the individual to be able to secure employment or establish themselves independently in their field in Australia. The applicant must be internationally recognized with exceptional and outstanding achievements. Additionally, they must be nominated by an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident, an eligible New Zealand citizen, or an Australian organization with national recognition in the applicant’s area of talent. Applicants must be between the ages of 18 and 55 and may need to demonstrate a functional level of English proficiency (IELTS-4.5). They must also meet health and character requirements. The Global Talent Visa Subclass 858 allows you to live and work in Australia permanently, study at Australian educational institutions, receive state-subsidized medical assistance through Medicare insurance and the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS), receive social benefits (with possible waiting periods), apply for Australian citizenship following the established procedure, and sponsor individuals interested in applying for an Australian immigration visa.
GRADUATE VISA (SUBCLASS 485)
The Temporary Graduate visa is intended for international students who have recently graduated from an Australian institution with a degree
and/or possess skills and qualifications in occupations that Australia requires. This visa allows individuals to temporarily live, work, and study in Australia for a period ranging from 1.5 to 5 years, depending on their specific circumstances. By granting this visa, international students are given the opportunity to extend their stay in Australia and enhance their chances of qualifying for a permanent or provisional skilled visa in the future.
There are three different streams available for this visa:
- Graduate Work stream
- Post-Study Work stream
- Second Post-Study Work stream
To be eligible for this visa, you must have held a student visa 500 in the last 6 months or currently hold one; meet the Australian Study requirements or have a qualification relevant to an occupation on the skilled occupation list; be under 50 years of age; hold a valid passport from the United Kingdom, the United States of America, Canada, New Zealand, or the Republic of Ireland, or prove your English proficiency with an IELTS equivalent overall score of at least 6 with a minimum score of 5 for each of the 4 parts; meet health and character requirements; and have adequate health insurance for the duration of the visa. The subclass 485 visa allows you to live and work in Australia temporarily. You can also bring your immediate family members and apply for a second Graduate 485 visa if you have studied and lived in regional Australia.
Skilled-Recognized Graduate Visa (Subclass 476):
The Temporary Skilled-Recognized visa is for engineering graduates who have recently completed a degree or higher qualification from a
specified institution. The visa allows you to live, work, and study in Australia temporarily for up to 18 months. The visa offers opportunities for recent international engineering graduates to gain experience in the Australian workforce.
Eligibility for the Skilled-Recognised visa (subclass 476) requires that applicants meet the following criteria:
- Have not previously held a subclass 476 or 485 visa
- Hold an Engineering qualification in one of the following specific engineering disciplines:
- Civil engineering
- Structural engineering
- Chemical engineering
- Environmental engineering
- Electrical and electronics engineering
- Mechanical, production, and plant engineering
- Mining and material engineering
- Have obtained their Engineering qualification from an educational institution that is specified:
- Any institution that offers an Engineering qualification accredited under the Washington Accord is considered a specified institution
- The Department will also accept an engineering degree that is specified in this instrument.
Subclass visa 476 enables you to live, work, and study in Australia temporarily, and bring your immediate family members.
