This visa enables you to reside in Australia as the guardian of an international student under the age of 18, who is studying in Australia on a student visa. The duration of your visa will be dependent on the student visa holder’s duration of stay and age. To be eligible, you must be the parent, relative guardian, or custodian of the individual who is studying in Australia and is under 18 years old. You must also be over 21 years old, able to provide accommodation, welfare, and support to the student, meet the financial requirements for your stay in Australia, and meet the Australian health and character requirements. Additionally, the applicant must provide evidence that they will only stay in Australia temporarily.
Subclass visa 590 conditions include the following:
- The visa holder is not permitted to work.
- The visa holder is not allowed to attend training courses with a total duration of more than 3 months, or study an English course for more than 20 hours per week.
- The visa holder must have compulsory medical insurance.
- The visa holder cannot leave Australia and leave the student without guardianship.
- The visa holder can bring other children under 6 years old if there are compelling and compassionate reasons to do so.
